Review, Refresh or Renew
The Review, Refresh or Renew approach is designed to support academics with revisiting their module and preparing for the new academic year. This approach draws both on staff feedback and the evaluation of the ADAPT and EnABLE process (April 2021) employed during 2020.
The information below can be used to support and guide you through the process of reviewing and enhancing your modules.
Please click a title to navigate to the correct area: Review, Examples of Practice, Refresh or Renew
Small Changes
If you have identified small changes to your module, we have provided some support resources and links to ideas for embedding new activities/practices. You also have the option to use the offline ABC tool to map out your changes.
Significant Changes
If you have identified that your module has to undergo significant changes, the Digital Education team can provide support with consultation and customised workshops to help you and your team.
Review
Your annual module review allows reflection on the current module design; what worked well, and if any changes are needed. To support you, the following standard questions have been compiled into a document which you may choose to use when reviewing your module.
Standard questions to consider when undertaking a module review | Link to external document (docx)
Please note: In reflecting on the past year, the Office for Students also recently published the outcomes of a national review (Feb 2021) into digital teaching and learning during the national lockdown. For further information, see the full report below.

At the end of this review you may wish to proceed further:
1) Small modifications: If your review has suggested that small changes are needed. We would recommend looking at the Refresh section of the site for guidance.
2) Significant modifications: If your review has suggested that you have to change a lot for your current module to work, we would recommend that you look at the Renew section of the site for guidance.
Please note: Depending on the modifications proposed following the module review, the University’s Programme Modification Process may need to be undertaken to consider and approve the changes for the next academic year session. To assess whether a programme modification is required, and for information on the process and time-frames involved, please visit the Office of Quality, Standards and Partnerships via the link Programme Modification Information and Guidance | External Link
Additionally, it might be worth discussing your proposed module changes with your Link Quality Officer and/or College Director of Academic Quality and Standards for guidance.

The Refresh stage supports staff to make small changes to their modules as part of continuing improvements for the upcoming academic year. As ever, it is important to ensure all modules are up-to-date and relevant, and to assist you below are several supporting resources to guide you through this process.
The DIY ABC (Offline) tool is available for you and your team to work independently, with video guidance, to create or reshape your modules. To find out more about the ABC curriculum design process, please click here to visit our ABC page (internal page).

The Renew stage is designed to support staff with re-designing (or design a new module) for their curriculum. The digital education team can work in consultation with your module team to support you with the re-design process. They can offer insight into different examples of practice and support with embedding new assessment practices, learning objectives overviews and helping design the student journey. If you would like to go through the renew process, we would recommend you contact our team so we can hold a consultation session with you. This will help us establish your needs and we can then customise our support and resources appropriately.
