Using PowerPoint Presenter View in Large Lecture Theatres
To make use of Presenter View, you will need to change the Projection options in Windows to ‘Extend’ rather than ‘Duplicate’ so that the projector or main monitor becomes a second screen to the PC, rather than duplicating what you have on the main PC monitor.
This is fine if you are only intending to use PowerPoint during your lecture – if you wish to display any additional content such as web pages or another application, then you are better to change the Projection options back to ‘Duplicate’ so that you can see on the main PC monitor what is being shown on the projector above.
In order to change the Projection options, press the ‘Windows’ key plus ‘P’ on the PC keyboard or access ‘Display’ by opening the Windows menu, selecting ‘Settings’ and then ‘System’ where you should see the display settings.
Once your display is extended, you will need to activate Presenter View in PowerPoint by clicking on the Slideshow menu and ticking the ‘Use Presenter View’ tick box. Now when you start your presentation, you will be making use of Presenter View and you will be able see any notes you may have made on your presentation.
The default Secondary Source in Panopto should automatically switch from the Main Screen to the Second Screen, as shown below, when you choose ‘Extend’ so you should not need to change this, however, if this doesn’t happen, you can adjust this manually.
When you have finished teaching in the room, please change back the projection settings to ‘Duplicate’ before vacating the room.
